The Heads of Mission of the European Union accredited to Myanmar/Burma are deeply saddened by the continued flooding across the country which, according to latest assessments, has severely affected more than 330,000 people. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and our sincere sympathies to all communities suffering from the disaster.

The EU and its Member States are important donors of humanitarian aid in the country, helping the most vulnerable people with more than 67.5 billion Kyat (EUR 50 million) per year. In response to the Government’s appeal for international assistance, we will provide an additional 6 billion Kyat (EUR 4.5 million) in emergency support in order to alleviate the suffering.

Together with our partners on the ground, we are also directing existing resources to those who need them most urgently.

Furthermore, the EU is committed to contributing to post-disaster recovery and improving the preparedness of local authorities to respond to such situations in the future.
